Submission Illustration

Afters

The Bittersweet Residue
Afters is a series of illustrations where the debris of a dessert course reveals the subtext of a civilization. By subverting the traditional aesthetics of Chinoiserie and Willow pattern porcelain, each piece hides a second world within the decorative surface figures in crisis, scenes of tragedy and surveillance, folded into ornament we rarely look at closely enough.

How something beautiful can arrive too late not because it failed, but because everything before it succeeded too well. The tragedy is timing. The food was too good for this dessert.
