Amour En Carton

Amours en Carton is the account of a love story: a doomed and unilateral one between myself and a cardboard lover.

Made through large-format black-and-white photography, constructed scenes, still life and self-portraiture, the project uses cardboard as a material for craft, self-delusion and misguided romantic projection.

The work grew from my own tendency to seek affection where it is unavailable and to mistrust it when it is honestly offered. Through photographs and an accompanying French monologue, Amours en Carton treats infatuation as grotesque melodrama: something tenderly ridiculous, a self-generated obsession and compulsion that replaces the slower realities of intimacy.
