Are We Going to Talk in Chinatown?

The project is a print-based exploration of silence, familiarity, and belonging. It reflects on the experience of living between languages and cultures, where communication often exists in gestures and pauses rather than words.

Set in Manhattan’s Chinatown, the work observes how quiet moments can reveal forms of connection that are subtle but deeply human. Through photography made by Ming herself, typography, and spatial rhythm, the design captures the tension between distance and intimacy, presence and disappearance. The project approaches Chinatown not as a backdrop but as an emotional landscape. It reflects the sense of comfort and restraint that coexist within the neighborhood and within the self.
