BABY BIRD is the directorial debut of cinematographer Daphne Liang AKA Aris Liang. The horror-drama short film follows Helen, an American-born Chinese nanny who struggles to help the young boy she takes care of hide secrets from his mother, in the wake of her own mother's death. The film is inspired by Aris's experiences growing up as the child of Chinese immigrants and examines topics of language and memory. The film is also Aris's push for more cultural storytelling in genre work, outside of the traditional drama space, telling a character-driven story with an all-Chinese cast through a gory horror film that leaves the audience questioning the nature of Helen's reality. BABY BIRD has screened at the Salem Horror Film Festival, Boston Underground Film Festival, Final Girls Berlin Film Festival, and Beverly Hills Film Festival.
