Baby Sasin-do (Four Guardians)

Baby Sasin-do is a series that reimagines the four guardian creatures of traditional Korean Sasin-do—Cheongryong (Blue Dragon), Baekho (White Tiger), Jujak (Vermilion Bird), and Hyeonmu (Black Tortoise)—in my own visual language.Traditionally depicted in ancient murals and paintings as powerful and majestic guardians, I imagined them instead as young, innocent, yet slightly uncanny creatures. Drawing from the forms and colors of traditional Korean imagery, rather than faithfully reproducing established iconography, I use free-flowing lines, vivid colors, and visible traces of the hand to create new guardian creatures of my own.
