In an age where belonging feels increasingly fluid, I explore what it means to search for a place to stand when every border seems to shift. After ten years in the United States, I realize that my roots in Japan remain deep, even as that homeland transforms. This tension between my origins and my current reality shapes this work.
By merging fragments of digital culture and advertising with classical painting motifs, I visualize the conflict between what fades and what endures. I use images of flowers and butterflies—symbols of vanitas and resurrection—alongside visible traces of the painting process to depict the fragile balance between loss and renewal.
I view this work not merely as a finished product, but as an ongoing act of searching. It is an attempt to define a sense of belonging within the very state of transition.
