Raúl Lara’s recent paintings examine the distance between the image presented to others and the less visible experience of the self. Working with oil, acrylic, gesso and photographic transfer on canvas, he builds figures through adhesion, rupture and partial loss. The transferred photograph doubles faces, interrupts bodies and leaves torn transitions, fragments of paper and exposed ground. Deliberate composition coexists with air pockets, uneven adhesion and fractures that cannot be fully controlled. Lara retains these events as evidence of the work’s physical history. Across the series, memory becomes an unstable act of reconstruction: figures form and dissolve between material presence and photographic trace. Based in Morón de la Frontera, Seville, Lara has exhibited internationally, including START Art Fair at Saatchi Gallery
