The following are an excerpt from a photo book of 47 pictures taken on the afternoon of June 10, 2025 during a walk along the four-mile length of Broadway in Brooklyn. Here, Broadway runs from the East River in Williamsburg to Broadway Junction in East New York. For most of this distance, it is covered by the elevated tracks of the J, M, and Z subway lines, cutting diagonally through north Brooklyn. The street is a busy commercial corridor dense with dollar and appliance stores, delis and slice shops, barbers and nail salons, botanicas and pharmacies. Decades-old awnings hang next to fresh neon, creating a distinct palette of color and texture under the shadow of the subway tracks. This book represents a sliver of the view along its path at this moment in time.
