Brussels Brut

Brussels’ architecture has a rich fusion of different times and styles. An hour walk around the city will give you the chance to see authentic Neo classics, Neo-Renaissance, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Modernism. In some reflective way, all those buildings could resonate to the Brutalist aesthetics - many of them are build under a regime, as a result of wealth taken after a genocide, or by the imperial and colonial history of the country. For instance, there are monuments of Leopold II in a posture of celebrated leader - the very same person who is responsible for the deaths of millions of the Congolese: the estimated range varies from 1 million to 15 million deaths, with a consensus growing around 10 million.

These are some landmarks of Brussels, remixed through the eyes of "brutalism" as a metaphor.
