These self-portraits that are part of an ongoing series exploring themes of loss and physical trauma.
Until now, I never dared to make self-portraits because they felt too intimate, and I wasn’t willing to expose myself in that way, but over time I’ve come to realize that it’s the only way to approach this theme.
Given the nature of the subject, I chose a ‘physical’ approach, working directly on prints, using various reflective objects or making props so that the effects are never done in post-production.
There is something powerful in doing everything this way because digital image is immortal, and in working with it there is no mistake that carries a consequence. Everything can be returned to the beginning with a single click, which stands in complete opposition to the experience of trauma.
