While living in Italy, designer Aleksandra Ivanova got completely absorbed in a culture where food is at the center of everything. Cheese especially: there is a whole science behind it that most people never get to see. So she made a board game about it.
"Cheese Farm" is a strategy game about the chemistry, economics, and cultural geography of cheesemaking, for players 12 and up. Players collect process cards (pasteurisation, coagulation, and more), assembling real sequences to craft five cheeses, each from a different country, each with its own aging time and market value.
Every design decision carries meaning: cheese cards are triangular like a wedge, coins are round like a wheel, the board itself is circular. The game was refined through playtests until the balance between strategy, learning, and fun clicked into place.
