I love faces, and I love painting them. Over the past several years, my work has primarily been simple, colorful portrait studies of friends and family. When painting someone, I feel I get to know them more closely through the details that come into focus -- the shape of the eyebrows, the shadows around the cheekbones -- that I hadn't necessarily noticed before. The moment when a painted face comes to life is a powerful one, and with each of my portraits, I try to capture a moment of a person's character that feels alive.
