Nicknamed "home of the overseas Chinese", Taishan is a small coastal town near southern China. These photos documented my first visit in 13 years since moving away. Being a small town, Taishan is lagging behind compared to other Chinese cities experiencing rapid growth. As the younger generations move abroad or bigger cities in China for opportunities, many retirees stayed for a more peaceful mode of living. This project started as a personal attempt to reconnect with my own past but it transformed into an investigation on the traces of immigration.
