Submission Drawing

Drawings by artist Jeremy Ruiz

I'm an artist, illustrator, and designer living in New York.
My work examines identity, mortality, and colonialism through themes of myth, folklore, and its relationship to contemporary culture. My ceramic objects and drawings invoke ritual real and imagined- coins in the eyes of the dead as an offering, the black dog leading a spirit to the underworld, an oversized hat (and undersized boot) standing as cartoonish monoliths, and portals into unfamiliar time and space. Pre-Columbian sculpture, RPG gaming culture, the American West, early animation and comics are all through lines in my work, and are the vehicle by which I explore.
