Submission Painting

EOS / oil on canvas

I painted this for my therapist. She graciously accepted the gift (ethics and boundaries be damned), and presented me with a crayon drawing of a tulip on warm gray construction paper in return, replete with a heartfelt message inscribed on the back, her name, and the date. It's the most beautiful gift I've ever received.

If you look closely toward the bottom third of my oil on canvas painting, you'll notice a glimmer of yellow gold breaking with the muted seascape. This is not symbolic of hope or another recycled positive affirmation; instead, the color embodies the boundless possibilities created and developed through the hard work and partnership that is therapy.

(If you look closer still, to the left, maybe you'll notice us in the painting: a thin red rouge line . . . Absolute rage.)
