"Eosophobia 18" is a visual investigation of nocturnal Berlin, exploring darkness of the city as a state of human consciousness. The title refers to eosophobia, the fear of dawn. Within the project, this fear becomes a metaphor for what happens when something has remained in darkness for too long - the return of light begins to feel threatening. After prolonged immersion in darkness, opening one's eyes to the approaching dawn can become an act of confrontation rather than relief. The number 18 refers to the threshold of astronomical night, when the Sun is 18 degrees below the horizon, as well as to the eighteen photographs comprising the series. It marks a passage between the visible and the concealed, between what the city reveals and what remains beyond the conditions of daytime perception.
