This is a small sample of the work I have included in the “Finding Faces” show through the end of November in Black Mountain, NC just east of my studio in the River Arts District of Asheville NC. For these 3 new works, I de-emphasized the editing process in favor of a maximalist expression of my visionary process. I see the images in the texture and tonal shifts of my initial layer and bring out the images in a second layer to define the characters and scenes. Faces are most often the first thing I see within dramatic or subtle shifts of color or texture. This process is based on the psychological phenomena called “Pareidolia” which many of us engage in by finding images in the clouds. What emerges from the textures is often dreamlike, unusual, and whimsical in nature. my work often elicits joy, curiosity, and contemplation.
