Bangladesh faces recurring floods driven by intense monsoon rains and upstream water surges, devastating rural and urban communities. In 2024, more than 5.8 million people were affected, 71 lives were lost, and economic losses exceeded $1.2 billion. Entire villages can be submerged, destroying homes, farmland, roads and essential infrastructure, while families are forced into overcrowded shelters. The crisis falls hardest on low-income communities, where damaged sanitation and limited access to safe drinking water increase health risks. Photographed across Bangladesh from 2022 to 2024, this project documents the destruction, displacement and disruption caused by recurring floods, while portraying the resilience, adaptation and solidarity of people living through one of the country’s most persistent climate-related crises.
