Furthering is an ongoing open-ended body of work all created with the children's drawing toy- the Etch A Sketch. From the time i was around 9 years old i had an etch a sketch around my home. I would draw rampantly as a child with anything that made a mark but often found myself gravitating towards the etch a sketch. It never dawned on me that it was an esoteric or novel medium. It was not until i was older, reflecting on my nature as a neurodivergent artist that i realized the gravitation towards such a medium. I now view it as a soothing type of medium that occupies both my hands curbing my anxiety much like a stim. I make detailed surreal inspired mental scape type imagery with the toy and have developed a preservation technique that makes all the works permanent.
