‘Gilded Splinters’ – Series by Alison Stinely

My current works investigate personal guiding mythologies. Traditional symbolism mixes with private imagery to illustrate the ways I have adopted unreasonable belief systems—religious orthodoxies, superstition, and cultural ideals of femininity. Formal decisions such as the distortion of anatomical structures and a saccharine palette draw on historical painting, while the incorporation of particular subjects suggests narratives pulled from religious stories that span many cultures and epochs.
The 'Gilded Splinters' series was produced over the course of 18 months and began with the 'Conglomerate' set of works. I explored new techniques and methods such as gilding, 3D printing and hydro dipping with the 'Conglomerate's. Their small size allowed for exploration in incorporating these new elements with my oil painting practice.
