"Gipsy Horses" is a documentary project photographed in Flanders, Belgium, exploring the unexpected presence of cowboy culture far from the landscapes traditionally associated with it. At its center is William Dougan, a Flemish man of Romani heritage who has dreamed of becoming a cowboy since childhood. Around him, a community has grown through a shared commitment to horses, work, and a consciously chosen way of life.

Over two years, the project developed through close coexistence with the community, documenting training, rodeos, labor, falls, laughter, and quiet moments. Rather than focusing on spectacle, the work centers on the relationships, rituals, and everyday gestures that sustain the ranch.

"Gipsy Horses" explores identity, belonging, and the tension between where we come from and who we choose to become.
