Given is an ongoing series of oil paintings about what reaches you before any choice: where you're from, whose you are, what you're made of before you could decide. A girl in hanbok is the fixed form, and each painting puts one contradiction into it and leaves it open.
In one, belonging is worn whole and there's still no ground underfoot. In another, you're dressed in who to be before your own want exists. One is about the viewer, not the girl – the answer arrives before you start looking. One is about balance being a constant correction rather than rest.
I'm Korean by surname and Russian by first name; this is where the work starts.
