Glashütte Trash Clock is a fully functioning mechanical clock that I built from trash and other stuff I found in Glashütte, Saxony, a small town famous for some of the finest watches in the world.
NOMOS had invited me for a residency, and since my great-grandfather was a watchmaker, I thought I'd also try to build a clock. The escapement wheel is made of paperclips, the wheels are cardboard, and a paint can full of scrap metal keeps it running for about half an hour. At something like 12'o clock, there happens a glass bottle gong. And just before the clock runs out of energy, it spins a wheel of fortune that answers the ultimate question about time: Now or Never?
I also invented a new time system, GTC, for which my contraption serves as the global reference clock. (To make sure that it's always right - by definition!)
