Goldwork Embroidery Sculpture at the British Museum

Hand Embroidery Artist Hanny Newton is creating an interactive public art piece as part of the public events accompanying the British Museum’s major autumn show, the BP exhibition Scythians: warriors of ancient Siberia. Hanny's installation, in collaboration with artist Beatrix Baker draws on the Scytian's love of gold and of horses, taking inspiration from the swirling motifs of objects in the BP exhibition Scythians: warriors of ancient Siberia. From traditional gold thread couching techniques, to beads and sequins and even gold illustrations, visitors will be able to learn new skills and contribute to the piece. The horse will gather gold throughout the event, inspired by elaborate headdresses Scythians created for their horses.
