HEDONE - series of paintings by Janek Chmielewski, 2025
The title of this series comes after - according to Greek mythology - the
daughter of Eros and Psyche. Hedone was to become the spirit of pleasure and sensual
delight.
We all give in to Her at one point in our lives, we all chase her, dream the
dreams thanks to her, we react, we play, we chase and search for her ; we tend to
abuse whatever she introduces to us to and then we regret it ; daydreaming and
recreating whatever she allowed us to experience is our next step to total indulgence…
….To me she personifies the life lesson the teacher passed on to his students in the
movie Dead Poets Society - We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read
and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is
filled with passion.
