Danzhu Hu is an award-winning illustrator originally from China whose work reflects on emotional experience in a highly digitalized age. Her practice centres on emotional anchors, fleeting moments of vulnerability, connection, and resonance that persist despite technological acceleration.
Living as an immigrant in a hyper metropolitan environment, Hu explores the tension between intimacy and alienation shaped by screen-mediated life. Her illustrations depict glossy, otherworldly figures in spaces that feel both alien and emotionally charged, forming a contemporary surrealism where ideas of the human and the natural are continually reshaped by technology.
Influenced by Taoist philosophy and her early years in China, Hu balances whimsy and melancholy through colour, texture, and symbolism.
