“Hey, do you have a light?” Acrylic on Canvas, 3’x2’
Inspired by the transactional and meeting place of the smokers pit outside shows. “Hey do you have a light” demonstrates what I've seen and experienced as a way to get to know someone and chat between the hustle and bustle. A place of low stakes and casual connection. I depict a pre show or mid show break where my main subject has just found someone to light their cigarette. Asking for something within the smokers pit is sometimes a way to talk to someone you find attractive in whatever aspect. We as the viewer don't know how this interaction may go, there's a layer of uncertainty that comes with casual connection. But we can assume it leads to a flirty conversation.
