Upon arriving back sooner than expected from my artist residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, in order to get home before the last-minute border closures and the national lockdown, and unable to access my studio, I started painting in my kitchen. I put out a call on social media for images from the lives of friends and acquaintances during their sheltering at home during lockdown.

Our lives have become focused on the small ill-defined spaces we have had to make for ourselves for cooking, working, cleaning, fearing and dreaming in our entirely altered daily lives. For most, the outside has become just a picture framed by a window.

The works are a homage to the resilience of so many people under these difficult circumstances.
