Hometown – the photobook

Hometown is a personal project I've carried out over the course of 4 years on my hometown's deserted landscape. After leaving my hometown to go to college to a bigger city, I came to observe how our migration to larger cities takes us away from the identity of our childhood and the places where we grew up. In 2016, I exhibited a first series of images at the Die Faerberei Gallery in Munich, Germany. Coming back to Romania, I started to develop a more serious shape of the project: a photo book. Hometown - the photo book will consist of a series of 50-60 photos, and as afterword, an ethnographic essay, debating on a personal note the links between distance, migration, identity, memory, and the visual anchors that connect people to their native cities, written by Jasmina Al-Qaisi.
