Itaewon 159: Coping the Tragedy

Itaewon, a symbol of youth culture among Koreans, had turned into a nightmare on Halloween night of 2022 after 159 people have killed by a crowd crush.
Two days after, I visited ground zero to pay tribute and photograph how people are coping the despair.
Some time after, I started to notice that there were many senior citizens, who probably had enjoyed the same streets of Itaewon. These people of older generations at the mourning site often said that "they are truly sorry for not being able to save them" and "feel ashamed for not being responsible seniors."
In Korea, where generational gaps are greater than in other societies due to its rapid transformations, these words could mean something more sincere and apologetic. I thought maybe this could be the very beginning of the regeneration process of our heartbroken community.
