Japanese Folklore Inspired Dinnerware Plates

I love creating images that tell a story.
Porcelain as a medium, takes drawing and storytelling to a whole new audience.
Instead of hidden away in a book or hung on a wall, half off the fun of these unique plates is that they’re meant to be eaten off of.

They blend in alongside traditional blue & white porcelain, but with a twist.
They have a whimsical scene from Japanese folklore, or in this instance, inspired by Japanese artists’s from centuries ago, who created their own parody of the ancient tale of Daoist Immortal Kinko riding the giant carp down to visit the dragon King in his underwater palace, due to his virtuous life and benevolence towards fish.
What really inspired me to create my plate, was the artists from centuries ago who had fun with this tale and substituted a popular courtesan of the day, for Kinko.
