Lian received the Best in Art distinction upon graduating from a science-focused secondary school. Contractually bound to pursue a degree in science or technology, she continued developing her artistic practice independently across multiple media. At university, she served as president of a special-interest multimedia organization, immersing herself in creative communities that further shaped her practice.
Exposure to sustainability and environmental issues during graduate studies turned her work toward local subjects, endemic species, landscapes, and cultural narratives. Largely self-taught, she has since built an international exhibition and award record across Japan, Europe, and Southeast Asia, including recognition from the United Nations University. She later received tutelage in Japanese arts and calligraphy (shodo).
