My practice over the last few years has become about exploring the expectations placed upon women in society and exploring how those expectations rarely benefit the women expected to consistently perform them. My work, through a multi-step process which mirrors the precise rigid steps we take to be acceptable to those around us, displays the absurdity of the rules that shift out from underneath us without warning just as we’ve learned the last set that we were expected to demonstrate.
My work also seeks to explore the way society penalises those that choose to ignore the rigid roles placed upon them choosing instead to consistently force them to either change themselves or accept less from the world. I hope by creating work that explores these expectations more women will decide to reject them.
