Kaleidoscopic Nature

Ezra Pound once wrote that the “Relations between things are more important than the things themselves.” I am interested in the make up of the natural world; the empirical study which has brought us to our current understanding of nature and how we as a scientific and industrial species function within and affect change upon that world. My work focuses on the interaction between observational study of the biological world and the history of man’s scientific and technological advancements.

Much like the famous French scientist, Rene Reaumur, last year I began my observations of the natural world by studying insects. Through participation in a daily watercolor ritual, I studied the physiology of various species of caddisfly, mayfly and stonefly. With the new year I’ve begun a daily pen and ink exploration of the Fungi Kingdom
