Submission Photography

Kipuka

The project explores the relationships between the self, others, nature and objects through
memory, belonging, loss and preservation. Bodies, landscapes and collected objects become
fragments through which personal and collective histories can be excavated. Yet I am
interested not only in what these fragments remember, but in what they might come to
signify. The photograph becomes a space where reality can be displaced, rearranged and
reimagined, allowing the visible world to carry something intangible, unfamiliar or
impossible to name.
Within this space, I approach portraiture as a vehicle for symbols rather than merely an
instrument of beauty, identity or status. The body is not only a subject to be represented, but
a symbolic presence: a site where psychological, cultural and collective meanings converge.
