Kipuka is an attempt to grasp everything that binds this photographic anxiety together. In this
series, I collect portraits of the human in relation to nature, to others, and to the self.
I am interested in excavating the two sides of the same coin through two concepts:
the “kipukas”
—patches of land that remain after a lava flow runs down a hillside,
islands formed from what survives a small apocalypse, images surviving time—and
the Latin expression that constantly reminds us that even in those pure and ideal
places (Which Arcadia was for the greeks) we capture which a, where life is simple,
direct, and sweet, our mortality still demands presence and being in awe.
This project and exhibition is planned to be a triad between: Self, others and objects.
