The Last Traces of Lost Land (2026), Medium: Golden ink on Cyanotype
This work emerges from an urgency to preserve what is gradually disappearing from Kolkata. As the city rapidly transforms, many old mansions, palaces, temples, churches, and mosques are falling into decay or being altered through neglect and insensitive restoration. I am drawn to their surfaces—the carvings, stucco work, iron railings, and ornamental details—where traces of a layered social history remain. These fragments carry stories of migration, trade, colonial encounters, craftsmanship, and religious coexistence that have shaped the city over centuries. From the Mughal period to the British era and beyond, these structures stand as quiet witnesses to Kolkata’s evolving identity.
