Lonelypolis

Lonelypolis is a photo series by New York–based street photographer Jani Grigoryan, who captures human emotion and behavior in the city’s everyday rhythm. Through stark contrasts, fleeting glances, and light breaking through shadow, the series explores how a metropolis can be both crowded and deeply lonely.

Each photo reflects a personal world unfolding in public—people walking through darkness, pausing in silence, or simply moving unnoticed. These aren’t portraits of individuals, but snapshots of inner states.

Lonelypolis asks: how many stories of solitude live behind busy streets and steel towers? How does the city connect us—or leave us isolated?

Lonelypolis — a city of millions, where everyone is on their own.
