Machines for Suffering

08.10.26 —

MYCHAELYN MICHALEC | MACHINES FOR MYCHAELYN MICHALEC | MACHINES FOR SUFFERING | K Contemporary | DENVER
November 7th, 2026 - December 24th, 2026
Join K Contemporary on Saturday, September 5th, 2026 from 3 - 6 PM for an opening reception at 1412 Wazee Street, Denver, CO.

Taking its title from Pablo Picasso’s assertion that “Women are machines for suffering,” the exhibition considers what Michalec describes as the “fragmentary archive” of women’s history. By removing historical and mythological figures from their original contexts and reconstituting them through textile, Michalec reclaims these representations through a medium intimately associated with generations of women’s labor and storytelling. The resulting works ask how centuries-old assumptions about women continue to reverberate through contemporary culture.
