During the shopping season, thousands of Mexican families travel from all over Mexico to the San Marcos outlets in Texas to buy discounted clothing from brands like Old Navy and Chanel. Although is not considered migration in a traditional way, it is natural, as thousands of humans displace themselves to a faraway land yearly searching for resources. In this foreign land of abundance, we also find and interesting gender role reversal. Women get to call the shots as they actively indulge in the act of shopping while dads patiently wait in the many benches of the shopping citadel. In this state of passivity, they are confronted by their as caretakers rather than just providers.
