Nany Petrova – Porto Plural project, Porto, Portugal

“Porto Plural" is an intimate documentary and visual exploration of identity, transformation, and belonging hidden within the nightlife of Porto, Portugal. Through a respectful and empathetic lens, this photographic series captures the sacred ritual of metamorphosis starring Nany Petrova—Portugal’s oldest active drag performer, who continues to command the stage with unyielding exuberance at 70 years old.
Shot in the raw, authentic backstage of a local sanctuary of absolute freedom, the project traces the thin threshold between the ordinary day and the fluid night. The images journey from the vulnerable, bare-chested quiet of the dressing room—heavy with the scent of makeup, hairspray, and exposed skin—to the vibrant, euphoric release under the stage spotlights.
In this unique space, historical boundaries dissolve.
