Ngurupai is an island in the Torres Strait, located between the northern tip of Australia and Papua New Guinea.

The Torres Strait spans around 150 km, connecting the Coral Sea to the east with the Arafura Sea to the west, and consists of around 274 islands, of which only 17 are inhabited. NGURUPAI is a selection of photographs taken during four months of living and working on the island, within the small community of Wasaga, from August to December 2024.

The island is hot and dry during the dry season, with extreme weather conditions and frequent bushfires. The surrounding waters are home to crocodiles, sea snakes and sharks, making the sea less accessible despite the heat.
