I created a fairytale world of living mushrooms and fairies to explore how happiness and hardship can exist side by side. One fairy stands in the spotlight, while another sits below, feeling sad, lonely and overlooked.
I used lino printing to create the large mushroom, developing the prints onto acetate to add transparent layers and depth. I combined fine liner drawing and oil pastels to create a detailed, colourful landscape.
The contrast between the fairies encourages viewers to look beyond appearances and notice those who may be struggling silently. My work challenges the idea of a perfect fairytale ending, reminding us to appreciate what we have and show compassion towards others.
