Submission Painting

portfolio submission -Vanessa Poutou

My work is rooted in the desire to paint what cannot be seen: the pulse beneath the skin, the echo of a memory, the tension of a sound before it becomes movement. Whether I depict a figure, a musical instrument, or a gesture dissolving into abstraction, what interests me is the inner frequency—those emotional currents that shape who we are long before form appears.
In recent years, my practice has shifted toward exploring the raw energy of music: rhythm as emotion, sound as a state of being, the body as a vessel of vibration.
I don’t seek literal representation. I seek resonance.
The moment where an image becomes a metaphor for longing, resistance, fragility, or the quiet ache of transformation. Painting, for me, is an inquiry into these invisible states—a way to give form to what trembles inside us.
