Queens, NY – Photo Series about coming-of-age in NYC

Queens, NY is an ongoing photo series exploring the nuanced experiences of teenagers growing up in Queens through staged, cinematic scenes that blur the line between documentary and storytelling. By casting actual NYC teenagers, each image is inspired by memories shared within my community, using tableau photography to reconstruct moments that explore the complexities of coming of age.
The project examines what it means to grow up in close proximity to a cultural capital while remaining just beyond its reach. Set against the backdrop of Queens, one of the most diverse places in the world, it explores adolescence through themes of independence, dual identity, and early responsibility. This project is deeply personal to me as someone born and raised in Fresh Meadows, Queens, in a tight-knit immigrant community.
