REMOVE THE VEIL (2025), is a Cyanotype, Red India Ink and Acrylic series that explores the idea of growing up different in a regimented authoritarian society.
I draw on my own experience as a queer Syrian man, who grew up in the middle east, surrounded by the cultural and legal pressures of a society that aims to repress anyone who is different. The series illustrates coming to terms with this reality, accepting differences and leaving a "safe space". Anonymity is a state of being that is experienced by many people of colour, regardless of sexuality and identity. It is a state that unites us all in sadness, and strength in our ability to live on.
The box featured in the paintings/prints was made out of cardboard, where clouds and patterns were drawn on cards and attached to the box to mimic a childlike stop motion set.
