Starting from the idea that even the smallest movements can carry meaning through social and historical codes, Martin Veigl explores in his painting series Hands how minimal gestures can produce outsized effects. He collects photographed hand movements in public space and transforms them into painterly compositions, turning unconscious fragments of reality into deliberate samples of the present. In doing so, Veigl highlights the cultural significance embedded in fleeting motions that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
