Scarecrow – A Love Letter From My Mom and Grandma

“Scarecrow” is a multimedia lens-based work, spanning performance, video, projection, photography, and alternative photographic prints that explores mother-daughter relations and intergenerational trauma within the cultural and psychological framework of the Chinese family. Drawing on Kleinian theory, my videos stage raw fantasy and aggression as embodied performances, while the still photographs serve as documents that translate these psychic motions back into the frozen, haunting temporality of the archive. Within this structure, a deconstructed soundtrack, sampling audio from tangible sound footage of archived family images and other sound sources, creates a bridge between the past and the present, guiding us toward a possible light in the future.
