Seven Stages of Ishq started with a thought I couldn't shake off.
Growing up, I heard countless stories about love. The kind that makes people write poetry, leave home, lose sleep, become better versions of themselves and sometimes completely fall apart.
What I didn't see enough of were queer people inside those stories.
Not stories about struggle.
Not stories about acceptance.
Just stories about love.
The messy kind.
The beautiful kind.
The kind that changes you.
So I found myself wondering: if queer love were told through the language of ishq, what would it look like?
This series follows two men through seven stages: attraction, infatuation, love, trust, worship, madness and death.
The photographs are blurry, imperfect and sometimes difficult to hold on to. Much like memory. Much like love.
