Shadows

As James Baldwin said, "people are trapped in history, and history is trapped in them." | perceive our historical past as an essential source of formation of the self: it is a stamp on the individual's life, which inevitably affects and alters the person from the within.

The familial connection to the past is as fulfilling as it is somewhat isolating; it is you and the non-substantial, non-material history, imbued in the air, intertwined in your DNA. It is part of you, deeply internalised into our subconscious, something we have to face and deconstruct.

The history of my family has played an incredibly important role in my life and sense of self, which I wanted to face and meditate on through these series of pictures where I mixed the fine art approach with documentary elements.
